PUTRAJAYA – A total of 80 individuals and entities will be receiving a compound notice from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly receiving money from the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

The Chief Commissioner of MACC, Latheefa Koya said, the recipients of the compounds are given a two-week-notice to return the money in an effort to recover RM430 million of the 1MDB funds.

According to her, if they fail to comply within two weeks, they will be charged under Section 92 (3) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (AMLATFPUAA) 2001.

“The money involved belonged to the people and MACC will try to recover as much as we can.

“The money were transactions paid in cheques.

“The notices have been sent to the Attorney-General’s Chamber and is under the process of approval by the Attorney-General,” she said in a news conference at the Headquarters of MACC today.

Among the recipients of the compound notices are Datuk Seri Nazir Razak, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan and Tan Sri Shahrir Samad.

Besides individuals, entities such as companies, political parties, foundations and non-government organisations were also issued with the notices. They include, the Malaysian Institute of Translation & Books (ITBM), UMNO Divisions, Barisan Nasional, MIC, MCA, Gerakan, Parti Progresif Rakyat and Parti Rakyat Sarawak.

Latheefa further revealed that the highest amount received by an individual was Mohd Nazir, the brother of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak amounting to RM25.7 million. They highest recipient for an entity was Solar Shine Sdn Bhd with a whopping RM134 million. -MalaysiaGazette
