KUALA LUMPUR – PAS will not be interfering UMNO on their decision to choose and place candidate in the Tanjung Piai by-election this November.
On the contrary, according to its Vice-President Datuk Mohd. Amar Abdullah, UMNO needs to choose their candidate wisely in order to defeat Pakatan Harapan (PH) on 16 November.
“We hope that BN will choose the right candidate to win the by-election.
“We will not interfere in terms of which party BN would choose (UMNO, MCA or MIC),” he said in Kota Bharu yesterday.
The Tanjung Piai by-election will be held following the demise of its incumbent Member of Parliament, Datuk Dr. Md. Farid Md. Rafiq on 21 September due to heart complications.
Dr Md Farid, who was the Deputy Minister in Prime Minister’s Department from Parti Pribumi Bersatu won the seat with a majority of 524 votes after beating MCA’s Wee Jeck Seng and PAS’ Nordin Othman during the 14th General Election.
The Election Commission has set 2 November as the nomination date and 16 November as the polling date. -MalaysiaGazette
