KUALA LUMPUR – 65 residents of an apartment at Jalan Sri Penchala 1, Kampung Sri Penchala, Kuala Lumpur have been evacuated due to landslide last night.

The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Operation Commander, Mohd Zuhair Faisal Zulkifli said, the department received a distress call on the landslide near the apartment at about 9.08 pm.

Six firemen and 13 members from the Special Tactical Operation and Rescue Team Malaysia (STORM) and a fire engine were rushed to the location right after they received the call.

“We found the landslide behind the apartment 10 minutes after our arrival.

“Further inspection found that 24 of the residential units were unsafe to be inhabited. 65 residents were temporarily transferred to the Taman Tun Dr Ismail Community Centre,” he said in a statement this morning.

Heading the operation, he said that the operation last night also involved Fire and Rescue teams from Cheras and Keramat. They were also being assisted by the police and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

He further added that the police have secured the area and the operation is adjourned temporarily. -MalaysiaGazette
