KUALA LUMPUR – The Secretary-General of DAP, Lim Guan Eng hoped that the authorities can focus on the investigation for the arrest of several individuals linked to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) militants group, including DAP leaders.
“I never said that I wanted to stop police investigation. Do not twist my statement.
“I hope that Datuk Ayob can read my statement. Do not twist the words of a national leader.
“We hope that the police can focus their time on investigation rather than commenting, especially on the statements I did not make,” he said at the lobby of the Parliament today.
The Finance Minister was asked to comment on the Principal Assistant Director of the Bukit Aman Special Branch Counter Terrorism Division (E8), Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay’s statement that he was not sure where Guan Eng got his information that there will be no more arrests on DAP leaders over LTTE involvement.
Yesterday, Ayob Khan said that he has never issued statements that the police will stop the investigation.
Today, Guan Eng said that he received a briefing from an individual. During the briefing, he was told that there will be no further arrest on the people’s representatives on the LTTE case.
“I hope that officers like Datuk Ayob can focus their time on the investigation as that is his job and do not comment on minister’s statement which was irrelevant as I did not say them.
“I won’t tell you who briefed me as that information was for the minister,” Guan Eng added.
Last week, the media reported that Guan Eng said, the police informed him that no other DAP leaders will be arrested for their involvement with LTTE.
“I was also informed that although more people will be arrested for the suspicion of involvement in LTTE, no leaders or people’s representatives from DAP are targeted,” he said in a statement. -MalaysiaGazette
