KUALA LUMPUR – The government has created an attendance shift for its ministers, deputy ministers and back-benchers to ensure an adequate quorum for the Dewan Rakyat sitting.
As reported by Kwong Wah Yit Poh, the schedule was prepared by factoring other activities of Members of Parliament and it will also ensure that at least two ministers and five deputy ministers will attend the Parliamentary session.
The Deputy Speaker of Dewan Rakyat Nga Kor Ming said, the schedule will change everyday as they need to tolerate with the events and activities of each minister and their deputies.
“However, it will ensure that there would be adequate amount of ministers, deputy ministers and members of parliament at all time at the Dewan Rakyat sitting.
“The parties in Pakatan Harapan have issued an order to all its members that they are required to attend the sitting,” he said.
According to Kor Ming, he has personally brought the attendance issue to Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad after the lack of quorum happened.
“The Cabinet then discussed about this matter and decided on creating a shift schedule for this,” he said.
Kor Ming added, every party will handle the attendance of their own MPs.
When asked about the attendance from DAP, Kor Ming said that his party has no problem on attendance in the Parliament all these while.
“Although we did not have enough of quorum the other day, DAP did not have issue on that as we have enough of members there,” he said. -MalaysiaGazette
