KUALA LUMPUR – The Tanjung Piai Division Chief of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), Karmaine Sardini will be representing Pakatan Harapan in the Tanjung Piai by-election.
The announcement was made by the President of Bersatu, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at Hai Kee Hall of Pontian today.
Born and breed in Tanjung Piai, Karmaine is a former teacher at Sekolah Menegah Kebangsaan (SMK) Teluk Kerang, Tanjung Piai and had served as the architect in the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) from 1980 to 2000.
He contested at the Pontian Parliamentary seat during the previous 14th General Election (GE14) but he lost to Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.
Also present at the candidate announcement were the main leaders of Bersatu such as its Youth Chief, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman; Women’s Chief, Datuk Seri Rina Harun; and the Menteri Besar of Johor, Dr Sahruddin Jamal.
The Tanjung Piai by-election is the ninth by-election after GE14. Earlier, by-elections were held for the state assembly seat of Sungai Kandis on 4 August last year, state assembly of Balakong and Seri Setia (8 September 2018), parliamentary seat of Port Dickson (13 October 2018), parliamentary seat for Cameron Highlands (26 January 2019), state assembly seat for Semenyih (2 March) and the state assembly seat of Rantau (13 April).
The Tanjung Piai by-election is held following the demise of its incumbent MP, Datuk Dr Md Farid Md Rafik, 42, who was also the Deputy Minister at Prime Minister’s Department on 21 September due to heart complications. -MalaysiaGazette
