KULAI – Candidate from Bersatu, Karmaine Sardini for the Tanjung Piai by-election denied publishing the ‘Vote for Malay and Muslim Candidate’ poster which was being circulated in the social media.
Speaking to SinChew Daily, Karmaine said that he was announced as the candidate for the parliamentary by-election 28 October, thus, the preparations on the campaign materials, including posters are still ongoing.
According to him, the Pakatan Harapan poster will only be launched after the candidate nomination day.
Karmaine also said that he will provide service to all races and not limited to merely Malay and Muslims only.
The light blue election poster with Karmaine pictured as the candidate contesting for the Tanjung Piai by-election was distributed in the social media.
The poster created controversial as ‘Vote for Malay and Muslim candidate’ seemed to be playing religion and race sentiments.
Based on an observation by MalaysiaGazette, the poster looked like Karmaine’s poster during the 14th General Election in 2018, when he contested for the Pontian parliamentary seat.
The only differences between the two posters are the location of Pontian is being replaced with Tanjung Piai and PKR’s logo and phone number have been deleted and replaced with ‘Vote for Malay and Muslim candidate’. -MalaysiaGazette
