KUALA LUMPUR – The real factor which caused PAS to support MCA’s candidate Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng who will be representing the Barisan Nasional (BN) to contest for the Tanjung Piai by-election was the National Cooperation has overly accentuated on the Malays.
According to the President of PAS, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, there is a need for the cooperation to highlight a non-Muslim candidate to ensure that the cooperation can be accepted by the other races as well.
“As the Nasional Cooperation is overly majority Malays, there is a need to have the non-Muslims. Therefore, we highlight MCA as our representative in Tanjung Piai.
“Why MCA? We cannot put all non-Muslims into one basket. Some are extreme, some are not. MCA is not extreme like the others, therefore, we accept the candidate from MCA,” he said in the launch of the new version of Harakahdaily today.
Yesterday, Abdul Hadi openly said that MCA, is needed as the opposition needs ‘non-extreme non-Muslims’.
“PAS sees that the opposition coalition needs non-extreme non-Muslims in the multiracial community. MCA has only one seat (in the Dewan Rakyat),” he said yesterday.
Abdul Hadi, who is also the Member of Parliament of Marang was reported to agree with the choice of Datuk Seri Wee Jeck Seng from MCA to represent BN in contesting for BN in the Tanjung Piai parliamentary seat.
Besides supporting Jeck Seng, PAS also ordered its members who will be voting in Tanjung Piai to choose BN over the Barisan Jemaah Islamiah (Berjasa)’s candidate, Datuk Dr Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz. – MalaysiaGazette
