KUALA LUMPUR – Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak who chose to testify under oath showed that he is brave to face and defend himself from the charges thrown against him for misappropriating RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd.

The Member of Parliament of Sembrong, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said, Najib, who was ordered to enter defence is not guilty until he is convicted.

“We understand the process of the court. Najib has decided to testify under oath and he would be given the opportunity to be cross-examined by the prosecution team. That is the right, accurate and brave decision.

“Most of the people would want to know the truth. We want to see the process of justice so that the people can see the truth.

“When he was willing to give evidences, be cross-examined and questioned, it will allow us to seek the truth,” he said when met at the lobby of the Parliament today when asked if the verdict would affect Barisan Nasional (BN)’s chance at the Tanjung Piai by-election.

When asked about the allegations of UMNO Supreme Council memern, Datuk Lokman Noor Adam who alleged that Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had interfered in Najib’s case, the former Vice-President of UMNO said that he did not think so.

“We were accused of that when we were still the government. In the end, the judiciary institution must uphold the pride, credibility and integrity of the court itself,” he said.

Yesterday, High Court Judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali ordered Najib to enter defence for seven counts of criminal breach of trust, power abuse and money laundering involving a total of RM42 million belonging to SRC International.

The verdict was delivered after the prosecution managed to established prima facie on the case.

In his judgement, Mohd Ghazali said that Najib had stakes and full control in SRC and the RM42 million was deposited into his personal account. Besides feeling shocked, he did not take any action to report on the matter. -MalaysiaGazette
