KUALA LUMPUR – The President of PKR, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim admitted that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) had lost the support of the Chinese community in Tanjung Piai.

Therefore, he said, PH needs to focus on the rejection by the people, which brought the defeat to the candidate from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), Karmaine Sardini last Saturday.

“There changes in the Chinese and Malay votes. I believe that there are racial issues and I think, we need to understand the disappointment of the people of multi-races.

“The message is clear for us to take action,” he said at the lobby of the Parliament today when asked to comment on the drastic drop in Chinese votes at Tanjung Piai.

Elaborating further, Anwar said that PH needs to learn from the defeat in several by-elections, especially the Tanjung Piai by-election.

“It would be meaningless if we don’t learn from it. We will be unfit to be the leader. We have obtained the information and it is time for us to take smart actions and regain the confidence of the people,” he said.

Anwar was also asked to comment on the statement by Opposition’s Chief, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob who urged PH to dissolve the Parliament following their embarrassing defeat.

The Member of Parliament of Port Dickson said that the coalition accept the shocking defeat and urged the government to take further actions.

“There are several more effective measures that we can take to regain the faith of the people. Losing a seat or two will not cause the government to lose the Parliament.

“The government has the mandate to continue to serve the people,” he added.

PH suffered a great defeat at the Tanjung Piai by-election when the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate, Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng seized the seat with a huge majority of 15,086 votes compared to Karmaine who only managed to obtain 10,380 votes. –MalaysiaGazette
