KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng took his seat officially as the Member of Parliament (MP) of Tanjung Piai after taking his oath at the Dewan Rakyat today.
The sworn-in ceremony was carried out before the Speaker of Dewan Rakyat, Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff Md. Yusof at 10.00 am.
Witnessing the event were the President MCA Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, Opposition’s Chief Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and several MPs from the opposition bloc.
Jeck Seng won the Tanjung Piai by-election with a whopping 15,086 votes.
The Tanjung Piai MCA Division Chief obtained 25,466 votes from a total of 128 voting channels.
The result was announced by the Tanjung Piai by-election manager, Zulkifly Mohd Tahir last Saturday.
The official result showed that Jeck Seng has defeated his opponent, the candidate from Pakatan Harapan, Karmaine Sardini who only managed to get 10,380 votes.
For the record, Jeck Seng was the MP for Tanjung Piai for two terms before he lost the parliamentary seat to its previous MP, Datuk Wira Dr. Md Farid bin Md. Rafik from PPBM during the 14th General Election. Md Farid passed away on 21 September due to heart attack.
The six-cornered by-election witnessed 74.5 percent out of the total 52,471 voters fulfilling their duties. -MalaysiaGazette
