KUALA LUMPUR – The Dewan Rakyat sitting which was supposed to begin at 10.00 am had to be halted when there were only 24 Members of Parliament in the House.

The Speaker of Dewan Rakyat, Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof was just about to start the question and answer session by calling the MP of Tampin, Datuk Dr Hasan Bahrom when Datuk Abdul Rahman Mohamad (Barisan Nasional – Lipis) raised the insufficient of MPs to Ariff’s attention.

Mohamad Ariff then began to count the number of MPs in the House and there were only 24 MPs out of 222. Right after the bell was rung, two MPs entered the Dewan Rakyat, including Wee Jeck Seng (BN – Tanjung Piai).

The insufficient quorum issue was also uploaded by the MP of Subang, Wong Chen, into his Facebook post this morning.

“This is not a good start. We have issues on quorum. Only 25 MPs (1 Minister, 2 Deputy Minister, 23 Members of Parliament) at 10.00 am,” he said in his Facebook post.

Wong Chen said, the sitting had to be temporary suspended due to the lack of one MP from the government.

For the record, the Dewan Rakyat sitting needs 26 MPs from the government to kick of each session.

On 17 October, the Dewan Rakyat sitting also had to be halted for 10 minutes due to the insufficient MP quorum during the debate of the Supply Bill (Budget) 2020. -MalaysiaGazette
