KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will meet the Pakatan Harapan Members of Parliament (MPs) who played truant during the Dewan Rakyat sitting yesterday.
He said, it was a serious matter as that was not the first time, but the second incident.
“This is the second time it happened. Not enough of quorum. We need to discuss with the Members of Parliament. They are the candidates representing the people.
“They need to know that they need to work for the people after winning the election,” he said after officiating the EPF’s International Social Well-being Conference 2019 and the launch of [email protected] today.
Also present at the launch was the Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail; Finance Minister, Lim Guan Eng and the Minister of Youth and Sports, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
Yesterday, the Dewan Rakyat sitting in the morning was suspended for two minutes when there were insufficient of MPs for the quorum.
The MP of Lipis, Datuk Abdul Rahman Mohamad highlighted the lack of quorum when the Speaker of Dewan Rakyat Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof was about to start the sitting by inviting the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Culture, Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik to answer the first question by Datuk Dr Hassan Bahrom (PH-Tampin) during the Question and Answer session.
Mohamad Ariff then calculated the attendance of MPs twice and found that there were only 24 MPs in the House.
When asked if he would take the MPs attendance at the Dewan Rakyat after this, Dr Mahathir said that they will discuss about that at the party’s meeting.
