KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi advised all Members of Parliament (MPs) to obey the code of ethic as the people’s representatives when facing with sensitive issues, including religion.

The Chairman of Barisan Nasional cum President of UMNO said that he is very concerned about religion sensitivity.

According to him, Datuk Ahmad Tajuddin Abdul Rahman’s statement which related the sacred ashes on the forehead of Jelutong MP, RSN Rayer with Chin Peng’s ashes was merely the personal opinion of the Pasir Salak MP.

“However, you must remember that he has withdrawn that statement and as what the Speaker of Dewan Rakyat said, the matter is resolved.

“I hope that people can accept the apology with an open heart and I think that the issue has been resolved.

“The opposition MPs, especially those from BN, do not play with sensitive or religious issues. We need to respect all religions,” he said when met at the lobby of the Parliament.

When asked if the two-day suspension on Ahmad Tajuddin from attending the Dewan Rakyat would serve as a warning for other MPs to be more courteous, the Bagan Datuk MP said that the suspension is well accepted by Ahmad Tajuddin himself.

“I think that it’s not only him but all MPs from the opposition and the government should comply with the code of ethics as an MP,” he said before leaving the lobby of the Parliament. –MalaysiaGazette
