KUALA LUMPUR – Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said that the incident of changing the lyrics of Negaraku to Mandarin should never happen.

He said, the national anthem should be sung in Bahasa Melayu, the national language.

“This should not happen as Negaraku is in our national language.

“It is our duty to practice that in principle as our national language is Bahasa Melayu,” he said when met during the Dialogue in conjunction with the UMNO General Assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC).

Earlier, a 1.22 minute video showing a school students singing Negaraku in Mandarin in a classroom went viral. Netizens condemned the action and demanded strict actions to be taken against the perpetrators.

The Ministry of Education (MOE) said that it is actively investigating the case in a statement. –MalaysiaGazette
