KUALA LUMPUR – The action of Dong Jiao Zong in organising a demonstration on Jawi would only ignite the hatred of the Malays.
The Malays would then continue to demand for the vernacular schools to be shut down and it would create never ending racial tensions in Malaysia
According to Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, as a multi-racial country, everyone should be considerate and sensitive towards one and another.
“It would only cause the Malays to hold their own congresses and talk about shutting down Chinese type schools and so on.
“If you do that, you will invite feedback (anger). Malaysia is a multi-racial country.
“It is important for us to be considerate to the racial issues of others. If one day, you wish to do something extremely Chinese, the Malays will respond by raising Malay issues such as closing the national type schools and such.
“In other countries, when you fight among yourselves, you would be disbanded by using tear gas.
“If you wish to be like that, go ahead,” he said when asked about the plan by Dong Jiao Zong in organising a demonstration on 28 December over the introduction of Jawi in three pages of the Malay syllabus for year four students beginning next year.
Earlier, the Prime Minister spent about 20 minutes to visit the international media centre of the Kuala Lumpur Summit 2019.
When asked if Dong Jiao Zong’s plan would be stopped by the authorities, Mahathir replied, Malaysia is a democratic country which practises the freedom of speech.
However, everyone needs to be sensitive about the other people to avoid disorder which can threaten the stability of the country.
“If you start accusing a certain race for breaching the Federal Constitution, then, there would be disorder and it could threaten the stability of the country.
“If will cause the country to be poor and Malaysians will then migrate to other countries,” he said. -MalaysiaGazette
