KUALA LUMPUR – The Magistrate Court ordered Ahmad Saiful Islam Mohamad the son of the Defence Minister, to enter his defence over drug abuse at a renowned hotel last year.
Magistrate Mohamad Aizat Abdul Rahim delivered the verdict after the prosecution managed to establish prima facie on Mohamad Sabu or Mat Sabu’s son, after scrutinizing the statements from six witnesses in the case.
“After reviewing and considering all testimonies, the court has decided that the prosecution had successfully established prima facie and the accused is ordered to enter defence.
“Therefore, the court fix 13 February for the defence trial phase,” he said today.
Earlier on 13 June, Ahmad Saiful pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate Court for administering a THC drug (marijuana) at an entertainment centre at the W Hotel here, at about 2.05 am on 5 January 2019.
The proceeding began on 15 October 2019 with Deputy Public Prosecutor, Nur Fatin Mohamad Farid calling six witnesses to give their statements.
He was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and faces a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to two years, or both, if found guilty.
Ahmad Saiful, the third son of Mat Sabu along with his two friends were arrested on 6 January 2019 after he was tested positive for marijuana following a raid by the Dang Wangi Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department.
Mat Sabu commented earlier that his son would be subjected to the law of the country just like any other civilians. -MalaysiaGazette
