KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad will not mind if he is asked to resign, if the decision is unanimous from the Pakatan Harapan Presidency Council.
“I think, whether or not I should resign, should be decided by the Pakatan Harapan Presidency Council when we sit together.
“If they want me to leave now, I will go,” he said at a news conference after officiating the Bank Rakyat National Integrity Forum today.
The pressure for Dr Mahathir to surrender his power to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is getting stronger recently.
In addition, there is no fixed date for the power transition.
In the latest event, several PKR members had openly requested Dr Mahathir to resign. They also suggested to the Secretariat of Pakatan Harapan to fix the power transition date of Prime Minister on May 2020.
According to the group, it would ensure the sustainability of the Pakatan Harapan agenda.
Dr Mahathir had promised to handover his position to Anwar when he took over the leadership of the country after winning the 14th General Election.
He also repeatedly said that he would not breach the agreement and would wait until the completion of the APEC Summit in November, before passing the baton to Anwar. -MalaysiaGazette
