PUTRAJAYA – The new Chief Executive Officers (CEO) of Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) must be Malaysians as both companies are involved in important national strategic assets, said the Minister of Transport Anthony Loke.
“Both companies are national strategic assets which operate important transportation systems in the country.
“From the government point of view, its CEO must be a local,” he said during a news conference after witnessing the signing of additional MRT2 contract between MRT Corp and MMC-Gamuda at the Ministry of Finance today.
The statement was also echoed by the Minister of Finance, Lim Guan Eng, who was also at the same news conference.
According to him, there are many professionals in Malaysia who can the government-linked companies.
“We have enough of qualified professionals to fulfil the positions.
“We are only hoping to seek the best candidates among them,” he said.
Both Anthony and Guan Eng said that the government has yet to receive any candidate list by the Board of Directors of the two companies.
“The Board of Directors will list down their CEO candidates list. It will be presented to the Ministry of Finance Incorporated. The decision will be made by the Ministry of Finance,” said Anthony.
Last week, the CEO of MAHB, Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin tendered his resignation to explore new opportunities. The Chief Operation Officer of the company, Datuk Mohd. Shukrie Mohd. Salleh is currently acting as the CEO.
Meanwhile, the CEO of Prasarana Datuk Mohamed Hazlan Mohamed Hussain has been suspended from his duties and its Chief Operation Officer, Nizam Alias is acting for that position. – MalaysiaGazette
