KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will be pressing charges against Tan Shahrir Samad and Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan tomorrow at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court.

Shahrir and Ahmad will be facing one and two charges under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (AMLATFPUAA) 2001

The MACC had arrested Shahrir at 11.22 am. Meanwhile, Ahmad was arrested at 10.10 am at the Headquarters of MACC in Putrajaya after they were present at the commission to complete the process of the final investigation.

The duo were then released under MACC bail.

Last October, Ahmad Maslan verified that he was being investigated by the MACC and police for allegedly receiving money linked to 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

However, the former Deputy Finance Minister said that he did not receive the cheques stated by the police and MACC.

“I told them that I’ve never receive the cheques with the amount shown in the copy to me by the PDRM and MACC.

“I’ve also signed the documents given by PDRM and MACC stating that I did not receive that money,” he said.

The Member of Parliament of Pontian was among the 80 individuals and entities who received compound notice from the MACC in their effort to retrieve 1MDB money.

According to the Chief Commissioner of MACC, the compound notices amounted to RM420 million and the recipients need to return the money within two weeks from the issuance of the notices.

The notices of compound were being investigated under Section 92(1), where failure to pay the compounds could lead to being charged in court.

According to the list provided by the MACC, among the recipients of the notices include the brother of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Nazir Razak, the Member of Parliament of Pontian Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan and former cabinet minister cum Chairman of Felda, Tan Sri Shahrir Samad. -MalaysiaGazette
