KPDNHEP monitors the price, supply of face mask

PUTRAJAYA – The Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) is monitoring the supply of face mask following its hike in demand due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said, the officers in his ministry is conducting checks to ensure that nobody takes advantage by hiking the prices of face mask as it is a price controlled item.

“There could be a lack of supply when everyone is cautious about the spread of coronavirus.

“Our officers are monitoring the market situation. If needed, we will tell the local manufacturers to increase their production,” he said in a news conference today.

Saifuddin said, beside the locally manufactured mask, Malaysia also imports products from Europe and China.

Saifuddin also said that his ministry is monitoring the situation of food supply shortages following the outbreak.

“If there are signs of shortages, we will take actions to rectify the situation,” he said.

Meanwhile, Saifuddin also gave his guarantees that there will be no price hike for fuel following the new virus epidemic from China.

He said, Malaysia uses a fixed formula in determining its fuel prices and receives good support from the Ministry of Finance.

“We will closely monitor the position of fuel prices as it is the responsibility of MOF and KPDNHEP.

“There will be no price increase for now. We will maintain it at RM2.08 for RON95 and RON97 will float,” he said. -MalaysiaGazette
