KUALA LUMPUR – MCA questioned whereabouts of the promised additional 400,000 face masks stock daily by the government as the item is still insufficient in the market.

Its Deputy President, Datuk Mah Hang Soon said despite the serious Covid 19 outbreak, the people is unable to get their supply of the face masks to protect themselves.

“Our government said that there would be an additional 400,000 units of face masks per day. What happened to it and where are the stocks? Can the authorities let the people know?” he said during a news conference today.

According to him, MCA had received a lot of complaints from the public nationwide on the failure to get face masks in the market.

“Some friends and public, including health officers from the health clinics and hospitals, especially Ipoh complaint about their disappointment and their difficulty in obtaining face masks.

“The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumers Affairs (KPDNHEP) which is directly responsible for this has failed in providing accurate data on the stocks,” he added.

Therefore, there were comments from the public who wanted Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to resign if he fail to overcome this issue immediately.

Earlier, Mah distributed 5,000 pieces of face masks which MCA managed to get to the public through a corporate social responsibility programme of the party. It also did an awareness programme on the importance of early prevention in curbing the Covid-19.

However, he refused to speculate on the cause for the lack of face masks supply in the market.

“KPDNHEP must at least ensure that the supply reaches the target group without any problem. They need to inform the people about the supply so that the people do not go into panic mode,” he said. -MalaysiaGazette
