KUALA LUMPUR – The decision of Attorney-General Tan Sri Tommy Thomas by dropping proceeding against all SOSMA detainees accused of supporting the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) with immediate effect has taken the country by storm.
“Seriously? Out of the 34 charges, none of them stick on the suspect?” the President of Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia, Aminuddin Yahaya questioned.
He further asked if the police had arrested the accused without any solid proof when the Inspector-General of Police insisted that they did not make the arrests blindly but they had evidences.
“Have the police become so weak that big issue like this can escape easily?” he quizzed further.
He also stated, besides the LTTE cases, there were also other cases involving certain quarters and individuals which were dropped. Thus, he raised question on conspiracy at the highest level in the Attorney-General’s Chamber.
“This has certainly given the wrong message to the public which showed that all issues involving the supporters of DAP will go free, while the people are confident that the police would not arrest anyone without strong evidence.
“Is the country moving towards an era of terrorism with the release of the suspects implicated with terrorist organisations that easily? Is our country still safe?” he questioned further.
Therefore, he urged the public to request Tommy to resign as the Attorney-General as it has proven that he is not competent besides being biased in his decisions. -MalaysiaGazette
