KUALA LUMPUR – The prototype for the third national car is ready. However, it will not be revealed to the public, said Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
According to the Prime Minister, the project is waiting for the right investor at the moment. He also said that as a future car, the third national car project is equipped with new technology so that it is competitive in the market.
“We have the capacity and we need investment. The government will not invest now. We invite investors.
“So, we will seek the private sector who are interested to invest and produce cars.
“The car would not only be marketed in Malaysia but also overseas,” he said during a news conference after launching the National Automotive Policy 2020 (NAP 2020) today.
Also present was the Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Darell Leiking.
When asked if the third national car project would involve companies from Japan, Mahathir said that the government is free to work with any company from all over the world.
According to him, the great technology today does not only come from Japan but also China, Korea and even Europe. -MalaysiaGazette
