PETALING JAYA – The President of PKR, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was confident that Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad was not involved with the traitors who tried to topple the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.
He was informed about that by Mahathir during their meeting at the former Prime Minister’s residence at The Mines in Seri Kembangan this morning.
According to him, the meeting was also attended by his wife, the Deputy Prime Minister Datin Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, the President of Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) Mohamad Sabu and the Secretary-General of DAP Lim Guan Eng. During the meeting, Mahathir said that he will resign as the Prime Minister.
However, according to him, he advised the former Chairman of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) to not do so but to continue leading the PH government.
“He (Mahathir) insisted with his decision and at the same time, was disappointed for being linked with the group who wanted to hijack the government.
“I begged him and gave him hope that the betrayal could be handled but he remained with his decision,” he told the media at the headquarters of PKR after he returned from having an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at about 2.30 pm.
When asked about his decision in revealing their discussion now, Anwar, who is also the Member of Parliament of Port Dickson said that Mahathir only stated that he wanted to resign but it was not formal yet.
On the uncertainties following Mahathir’s resignation, Anwar urged the supporters of PKR and Malaysians to remain calm.
“All supporters of PKR, please remain calm and give your trust to the wisdom of the leadership in steering the party and overcoming this problem,” he said. -MalaysiaGazette
