No Malaysians affected in Turkey- Iran border earthquake

KUALA LUMPUR – There were no reports of any Malaysians affected by the earthquake in the region of Van Province in the Republic of Turkey and West Azerbaijan in the Islamic Republic of Iran, yesterday, according to a Wisma Putra statement.

The Foreign Ministry said it is monitoring developments following an earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale struck a region in both provinces.

According to the statement, to date, the earthquake had claimed nine lives and caused injuries to more than 40 people in both provinces.

“Wisma Putra extends its sympathies and condolences to the government and the peoples of the Republic of Turkey and the Islamic Republic of Iran, in particular to those who have been affected by the earthquake.

“Malaysia stands in solidarity with the people of Turkey and Iran during this difficult time,” it said in the statement, today.
