PUTRAJAYA – Yang di-Pertuan Agong would leave it to the Dewan Rakyat to determine the rightful candidate as the 8th Prime Minister of Malaysia.
Interim Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad said, His Majesty wanted a candidate who receives the majority support in the Dewan Rakyat for that position.
With that, a special Dewan Rakyat sitting will be held on 2 March.
“Yang di-Pertuan Agong wants Dewan Rakyat to determine the person getting the majority support will be appointed as the Prime Minister.
“If the Dewan Rakyat fails to determine who gets the majority support, a snap election would be held,” he said during a news conference after announcing the Economic Stimulus Package today.
Dr Mahathir answered the journalists question on the content of his discussion with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at the Istana Negara this morning.
He added, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had interviewed all Memebrs of Parliament over two days. However, the interview session failed to find anybody with a distinct majority as the candidate for the Prime Minister’s post.
Therefore, Mahathir said, the best decision, according to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, would be through the Parliament. – MalaysiaGazette
