KUALA LUMPUR – There is no special sitting for the Dewan Rakyat to choose a Prime Minister on next Monday, said its Speaker, Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof.

According to him, the special Dewan Rakyat sitting would only be raised after getting the official instruction from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

In a statement today, Mohamad Ariff said that he would continue to monitor the latest development and further statement on the notice and date of the special sitting will be informed.

He also said that he had received the letter to call for a special Dewan Rakyat sitting from the interim Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad that the government had agreed for the Dewan Rakyat to sit next Monday, 2 March 2020.

However, he said that the letter did not comply to the Meeting Regulation 11(3) as there was no complete motion attached.

“According to Meeting Regulation 11(3) the notice and date of the sitting would be issued by me as the Speaker of Dewan Rakyat.

“As of now, no notice is issued,” he said. -MalaysiaGazette
