KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Azam Baki has been appointed as the Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) effective of today (9 March).
His appointment was announced by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in a statement.
Azam was previously the Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) of MACC. He is appointed to replace Latheefa Koya who resigned as the anti-graft agency chief last week.
She tendered her resignation letter to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on 2 March.
In a statement, Latheefa said that the decision to resign was solely her own and she was not pressured by anyone to do so.
The PMO also said that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has given his consent for Latheefa’s request to resign according to Subsection 5(3) of the MACC Act 2009 (Act 694). -MalaysiaGazette
