PUTRAJAYA – Senior Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali was given the responsibility to chair the Cabinet meeting when the Prime Minister is away from the country.

The matter was decided in the first Cabinet meeting of the Perikatan Nasional government chaired by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Muhyiddin said that if Azmin, who is also the Minister of International Trade and Industry is also not in the country, the task will be shouldered by another Senior Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

When asked if there is a hierarchy among the fourt senior ministers, the Prime Minister said that they are all at the same level.

“I have a lot of support and I think that this is a functional cabinet which will service for the interests of the country,” he said.

Muhyiddin named the four senior ministers namely, Azmin, Ismail Sabri (Minister of Defence), Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof (Minister of Works) and Dr Mohd. Radzi Jidin (Minister of Education) during the cabinet ministers line-up announcement last Monday,

They will be assisting him in his tasks following the absence of the Deputy Prime Minister’s post in the cabinet formed by Muhyiddin after the Pakatan Harapan government was toppled.

Muhyiddin was also asked about the possibility of a fresh election before the end of the mandate given by the people.

“This is our first day at work. Give us a chance. The journey is still far and this is serious matter.

“We will plan carefully for the election in the future and it is too early to talk about it now,” he said. -MalaysiaGazette
