KUALA LUMPUR – Supreme Council Member of UMNO, Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said that the party was not comfortable with the decision of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin by placing Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali as the most senior minister in his Cabinet.
According to him, the choice of Azmin which is seen as the number two man of the country is not a good signal for UMNO.
“UMNO is not very comfortable with that. To me, that could be a continuation of Bersatu’s agenda and perhaps, even more than that.
“As a political party with political interests for our own party, we wouldn’t want to be side-lined and become a small party,” he said after the UMNO Supreme Council meeting at Menara Dato’ Onn.
Meanwhile, Tajuddin also questioned the position of UMNO when it is given the insignificant portfolios in Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s cabinet.
He said, those measures seemed imbalanced from the portfolio given to UMNO.
“We look at the positions given to UMNO, they are positions which could not help the people. Minitry of Agriculture, Ministry of Rural Development are held by Bersatu. Ministry of Defence takes care of security. How can we help the people in the villages, the farmers and fishermen?
“I think that we need to look at that and we cannot merely accept whatever that’s given to us. I shared my opinion and it included the management of the party, which needs to be strengthened,” he said.
The former Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry also said that the President of UMNO, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi did not comment on the issues raised by him but merely kept quiet about it.
“The President did not say anything and I think, perhaps, he took note of what I said,” he added. -MalaysiaGazette
