KUALA LUMPUR – Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad offered himself to contest as the President of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).
The former Prime Minister said, as the founder and first member of the party, he wanted to save the party which is cooperating with the kleptocrats and UMNO in order to form the current backdoor government.
“Join our plight to return our party to the right path,” Dr Mahathir wrote in his social media today.
On 24 February, Dr Mahathir relinquished his position as the Chairman of Bersatu after announcing his resignation as the 7th Prime Minister of Malaysia.
Three days later, the Secretary of the party, Datuk Marzuki Yahya said that Dr Mahathir Mohamad had returned and accepted his position as the Chairman of Bersatu. However, the matter was denied by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the President of Bersatu.
According to Muhyiddin, he is currently acting as the Chairman of the party following the resignation of Dr Mahathir, in line with Phrase 16.9 of the constitution of BERSATU, where the position of the chairman will remain vacant until the next election.
“If the Chairman resigns or is sacked, thus, the President will act in that position until an election is held to choose a new president.
“BERSATU has yet to hold an election to choose a new Chairman, thus, I, as the President will act in the position as the Chairman of BERSATU until the next election,” said Muhyiddin. -MalaysiaGazette
