KUALA LUMPUR – The government has decided to extend the Movement Control Order (MCO) for two more weeks until 28 April 2020.
The decision was announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in a special address today.
“Based on the advised from the Ministry of Health and medical experts, the government has decided to extend the Movement Control Order (MCO) period for two more weeks, from 15 April until 28 April 2020.
“The extension of the period can provide space for the healthcare staff to fight the spread of Covid-19, besides avoiding the disease from spreading again in the community,” he said.
According to Muhyiddin, the decision was also concurrent with the opinion of the World Health Organization (WHO) which recommended for countries not to end the MCO too early.
He said, it happened to several countries where the pandemic increased again after the movement restriction order is ended.
“What I want to say here is, we must be ready to face the situation for a much longer period.
“It could go on for several months, before we can truly ensure that the pandemic has been fully overcome,” he said. -MalaysiaGazette
