KUALA LUMPUR – Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) denied any involvement with the granting of recognition to the Rohingya Ulama Council Malaysia (MUR).
Its spokesperson said, the reference number JAKIM.PERH/LN.800-7(5) shown on the letterhead of MUR under its logo was not a recognition from JAKIM.
“JAKIM received public queries following the reference number on the viral letter. With this, JAKIM deny any involvement of giving recognition to that organisation.
“Furthermore, JAKIM was never involved in the approval for the registration of NGO as the power lies under the Registry of Societies (RoS) as stated under the Societies Act 1966,” JAKIM said in a statement today.
Yesterday, a letter from MUR apologising to Malaysians over a mistake by one of the Rohingya refugee who was seemed to be representing the whole ethnic and demanded their rights from Malaysia went viral.
The apology letter claimed that it has studied the demands made by the President of Myanmar Ethnic Rohingya Human Rights Organisation Malaysia (Merhrom) Zafar Ahmad Abdul Ghani.
According to MUR, they do not support his action and slammed it as being irresponsible.
However, the letter issued by MUR contained a reference number as if the ulama council received recognition by JAKIM. -MalaysiaGazette
