KUALA LUMPUR – Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff Md. Yusof had rejected the Member of Parliament of Semporna, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal from tabling the motion of confidence for Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad at the Dewan Rakyat.
In his statement, the Speaker of Dewan Rakyat said that the motion contradicted to Article 43 of the Federal Constitution for diminishing the constitutional authority of the Yang diPertuan Agong to appoint a Prime Minister.
“I have studied the motion presented by YB Datuk Seri Panglima (Mohd Shafie) and his justification.
“Based on his explanation in the motion, I found that it did not comply with Article 43 of the Federal Constitution as it questioned the right of Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong in the appointment of the Prime Minister.
“Therefore, I do not allow the motion of Datuk Seri Panglima to be brought to the sitting,” he said.
The letter dated 1 May 2020 written by Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal using the letterhead of the P.189 Service Centre for the Member of Parliament of Semporna, Sabah went viral today.
It notified the Speaker of his intention to table the motion in order to show that Mahathir still commanded majority support in the Dewan Rakyat. -MalaysiaGazette
