KUALA LUMPUR – All mosques, Friday surau and selected surau at the Federal Territories will be allowed to hold Friday prayer, congregational prayer including tarawih and Aidilfitri prayer under the condition that the congregation does not exceed 30 people, including the imam.

The leniency will be enforced beginning tomorrow for the Friday prayer, said the Minister in Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affair), Datuk Dr. Zulkifli Al-Bakri.

He said, the mosques and surau management need to ensure that the authorities such as the police are there to control the situation.

According to him, the Inspector-General of Police has agreed to give his full cooperation on the subject.

The committee members of the mosques and surau also need to ensure full compliance of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) issued by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the National Security Council (MKN).

The entrance of the mosques and surau can only be opened one hour before the time of prayer and will be shut right after the prayer.

“On the number of congregation, it is subjected to the decision of the religious authority of the states after obtaining the advice from the Ministry of Health and the National Security Council,” he said during a special news conference today.

He added, the people in the state who has yet to obtain the approval for Friday and congregational prayer need to wait from the decision from their respective State Religious Councils. –MalaysiaGazette
