KUALA LUMPUR – After two days of silence, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim explained the reason behind his absence during the special news conference called by Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad at the Perdana Leadership Foundation on Monday.
According to the President of PKR, it was obvious because that news conference was not organised by the Pakatan Harapan, thus, there was no reason for him to be there with the former Prime Minister of Malaysia.
“I received many queries, why I did not attend (the news conference) after the royal address at the Parliament. The answer is simple. That was not the Pakatan Harapan’s news conference.
“During the PH meeting held a day before that, we have decided that the leaders of Pakatan along with Bersatu and Warisan will issue a joint-statement on the Perikatan Nasional (PN) and sign it.
“Therefore, we will not hold a special Pakatan Harapan news conference. However, it will not stop DAP, Bersatu, Amanah, Keadilan or any PH MP from issuing their own opinion,” he said in a Facebook live video today.
Last Monday, Anwar, the Opposition Chief was not seen during the news conference held at the Perdana Leadership Foundation in Putrajaya.
On the contrary, the Secretary-General of DAP Lim Guan Eng, the President of Amanah Mohamad Sabu, the President of Warisan Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal and the Deputy President of Bersatu Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir were seen in that press conference.
Besides that, no other PKR MP was spotted at the news conference which lasted for about 35 minutes.
When asked by the media, Dr Mahathir said that Anwar had signed the joint-statement issued by PH and the parties which agree to join hands with PH.
Elaborating further, Anwar repeated his stance and said that he did not attend Mahathir’s news conference as it was not organised by PH.
He said, PH will issue notice that all programmes or news conference related to the party must be announced by the PH Secretariat.
“All these must go through the PH Secretariat. I cannot use the Secretariat of Keadilan to organise programme on behalf of PH. We have rules that need to be followed,” he said.
Anwar recently verified that Dr Mahathir is no longer the Chairman of PH following the action of Bersatu’s President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who led the party out from the coalition. –MalaysiaGazette
