PETALING JAYA – Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad insisted that he is still the Chairman of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) and his termination from the party is not valid.
He said, the announcement of him being dropped from the party announced by the Executive Secretary of Bersatu, Captain (R) Muhammad Suhaimi Yahya yesterday was not in accordance to the constitution of the party as he (Muhammad Suhaimi) has been sacked before that.
“I am still the Chairman and Datuk Marzuki (Yahya) is the Secretary (General) of the party. He still holds that position,” he said during a news conference today.
According to Mahathir, his termination was not valid as the appointment of the new Secretary-General by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was not according to the right channel.
He said, if Muhyiddin wishes to appoint a new Secretary-General, he would need to consult him (Mahathir). On the contrary, Muhyiddin made the decision solely on his own.
“I just found out that the position of the secretary has been given to (Datuk) Hamzah Zainuddin. That was done by the President. That is wrong,” he said.
He added, Hamzah has no right to hold position in the party has Bersatu had earlier decided that anyone from UMNO joining the party needs to go through certain processes and they are not allowed to hold positions in the party.
“He (Hamzah), is a common member and when he comes from UMNO, he cannot hold any position. So, it is wrong for Muhyiddin to appoint him as the secretary. Muhyiddin has done many wrong things,” he said.
Earlier, a group of media practitioners waiting for the news conference by the Secretary-General of Bersatu, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin at Menara Yayasan Selangor was shocked by the presence of Mahathir.
Shortly, several party leaders such as Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Mahathir, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah were also seen at the news conference.
We were informed that Hamzah has changed the location of the news conference from the Headquarters of Bersatu to another hotel at the capital. –MalaysiaGazette
