KUALA LUMPUR – News agency, Al Jazeera needs to apologise to Malaysians for producing a documentary which is confusing, ignorant and had ill intentions.
According to Senior Minister (Security Cluster), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Al Jazeera needs to stop airing its documentary, Locked Up in Malaysia’s Lockdown as it was not based on accurate facts and it was reported unethically.
“They said that we were racist and we were not fair to the illegal immigrants for locking them up. The truth is, the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) was not only implemented at the Selangor Mansion area.
“We also implemented the EMCO at many other areas such as the tahfiz schools, villages in Hulu Langat and others, where residents in those areas were locked up to contain the spread of Covid-19.
“Furthermore, there were also Malaysians and foreign workers with valid documentations being locked up at the Selangor Mansion during the EMCO, not just the illegal immigrants (PATI),” he added.
He also rubbished the accusations made by Al Jazeera which said that children were handcuffed during the huge operations to nab illegal immigrants.
“Handcuffs were never put on children and they were placed with their parents at a special area in the detention depot. They were separated from the other detainees.
“Those are the facts but perhaps Al Jazeera does not want such facts as they had ill intentions in their report.
“Now, they have disabled the comment segment in that video,” he added.
The 25 minute 50 seconds documentary was published at Al Jazeera English’s Youtube Channel two days ago.
The report accused Malaysia for being racist and ill-treated the illegal immigrants while the government was battling with the Covid-19 pandemic. The report had caused rage among Malaysians. –MalaysiaGazette
