KUALA LUMPUR – Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad denied that his resignation as the seventh Prime Minister of Malaysia had caused the political crisis in the country.
The Member of Parliament of Langkawi (Independent) said, some party members blamed him and alleged that every squabble which happened within the Pakatan Harapan (PH) was caused by his resignation.
“Actually, PH was toppled by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) when it left PH. All PH members lost their positions.
“I, as the member of PH government also lost my position,” he said when debating the Royal Address at the Dewan Rakyat today.
The former Prime Minister said, the Supreme Council of Bersatu had decided to exit the PH government when they celebrated (the collaboration) with UMNO and PAS at the Sheraton Hotel.
He said, his appointment as the Interim Prime Minister was at the discretion of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong so that the country will not go without a leader before the formation of a new government.
Meanwhile, he said that most of the incidences of jumping parties happened in Sabah.
“I think that there are a lot of cases of jumping parties in Sabah. I don’t know why.
“But, this truly happened before. There was no such incidence at the Federal level. We respect the decision made by the people,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr Mahathir also alleged that the formation of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government had stopped the wish of the people to make a change in the national policy.
“Truly, the parties rejected by the people had seized the government chosen by the people without following the providence of the national constitution.
“What happened was not only not democratic but it hampered the wish of the majority people who wanted change in the national policy.
“The party rejected by majority of the people who rejected their policy earlier has now formed a government which maintain the policy rejected by the people,” he said.
He also said that the formation of PN is known as the backdoor government because it is opposed to the principles of democracy.
“The parties rejected by the people had snatched the choice of the people without following the providence of the national constitution.
“The current government as confessed by the Prime Minister, is not the government chosen by the people,” he said. –MalaysiaGazette
