KUALA LUMPUR – UMNO had officially said that it will not join the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition but will continue to strengthen Muafakat Nasional (MN).
The decision was announced by its President, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi just now.
According to him, the PN government is formed based on the support from the Members of Parliament (MP) of UMNO and BN, along with the state assembly members in forming the federal government and several other states.
“UMNO has decided not to join the Perikatan Nasional. On the contrary, we will strengthen Muafakat Nasional (MN) along with PAS and the component parties of Barisan Nasional (BN).
“The support to the Perikatan Nasional government is only based on the support of the MPs from UMNO and BN, along with the state assembly members in forming the Federal Government and in certain states,” he read out a statement.
In the same news conference, Ahmad Zahid also disclosed that Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had extended the wish of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in joining MN.
“I will leave the matter to the committee of MN in considering PPBM’s request, if it has the ability of further strengthening MN for the benefit of the people and country,” he said. –MalaysiaGazette
