KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia has recorded 21 new Covid-19 cases today after a mere one new case yesterday.

From that amount, 15 cases were imported while six cases were local infections.

18 Covid-19 patients have fully recovered from that disease. Meanwhile two patients are currently getting treatment at the Intensive Care Unit. Nevertheless, none required respiratory support.

No death was recorded today, thus, the total Covid-19 death tally remained at 125.

Director-General of Health Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said, the six local cases involved three cases from the PUI Sivagangga Cluster in Kedah, two cases in Sabah and one in Johor.

“All three PUI Sivagangga cases were identified via close contacts screening of the positive cases in the cluster. They are the second generation of the case.

“Two of the cases are close contacts to case 9,000. Both of them are children to the case (case 9,021 and case 9,022).

“One of the patient’s child had respiratory symptoms on 30 July, however, did not seek any treatment at any healthcare facility.

“The third case (case 9,023) is the close contact to case 8,976. The patient had fever and respiratory symptoms on 2 August 2020 and seek treatment at the Taman Selasih Health Clinic in Kulim,” he said in a statement today.

As of now, 1,647 people have been screened under the PUI Sivagangga Cluster and 24 were tested positive of Covid-19. Meanwhile, 754 were found negative and 869 are still waiting for their results.

Noor Hisham added, besides the PUI Sivagangga Cluster, the other new positive cases today were tested during pre-surgery screening and pre-procedures at hospitals.

On the imported cases, he said, all 15 cases involved Malaysians and 12 of them were individuals returning from Yemen. Meanwhile, one individual was tested positive of Covid-19 from Papua New Guinea, Ivory Coast and the United Kingdom respectively.

“All imported cases were at the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur. They have been isolated at the quarantine centre after their arrival at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). Thus, there was no risk for local infection,” he said in a statement today.

The cumulative Covid-19 cases in Malaysia is at 9,023 currently with 196 active cases. All active cases have been isolated and given treatment. –MalaysiaGazette
