KUALA LUMPUR – Former Chairman of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad would be setting up a new party which will neither be supporting the government nor the opposition.
He said, the party would become the third force in the national politics.
“We are free to decide and join any parties,” he said in a news conference at the Bukhary Foundation today.
Earlier today, the former Prime Minister was rumoured that he wanted to establish a new political party named Parti Bersatu Rakyat Malaysia.
Meanwhile, Mahathir said, he has yet to decide on the name and the logo of the party. However, it would focus on Malays and Bumiputera members.
“We have yet to decide on the name of the party and I hope that the RoS can accept the proposal of the party.
“We expect some problems with the RoS. We hope that the government would be brave enough to approve the application of the new party as they are too afraid of us and are only trying to buy us,” he said.
Elaborating further, the new party will be led by his son, who is also the former Deputy President of Bersatu, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir while he would be the Chairman of the new party.
When asked if the new party would be working with Parti Warisan Sabah led by Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, Mahathir said;
“We don’t want to work with anyone because there are objections from their side,” he added. –MalaysiaGazette
