KUALA LUMPUR – Another new Covid-19 cluster is detected today, focussing in the Tawar Province of Kedah.
According to the Director-General of Health Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, 10 positive cases have emerged under the Tawar Cluster among the family members of the first case (case 9,113).
He said, case 9,113 is a Malaysian businessman. He had history of attending a religious ritual which was also attended by about 30 family members.
The ceremony took place from 31 July 2020 until 1 August and the patient started experiencing chest pain and fever on 8 August.
The patient then seek treatment at a medical centre where the Covid-19 screening conducted on him turned positive on 11 August.
“Following that, active case detection and close contact screening were conducted.
“As of 13 August 2020, 86 close contacts have been screened, including his family, close contacts at the hospital and other contacts.
“From that amount, nine cases were tested positive, 21 negative and 56 are still awaiting for their results.
“The source of infection is still under investigation,” he said in a news conference today.
Meanwhile, Noor Hisham also announced that three clusters have ended today, namely the Kuching Medical Centre Cluster, PUI Pitakwa and PUI Shirala clusters, ending a total of 74 Covid-19 clusters in Malaysia. -MalaysiaGazette
