KUALA LUMPUR – The involvement of PAS and several other parties in sponsoring the establishment of Perikatan Nasional (PN) is the rights of the respective parties.
According to the Secretary of the Muafakat Nasional (MN) Secretariat, Tan Sri Annuar Musa, the decision was neither against the memorandum of understanding nor the charter of MN.
Annuar, who is also the Secretary-General of Barisan Nasional (BN) said, UMNO remains with its stand that it would not be a member of a new political party.
However, UMNO will continue to work with the parties which support and are aligned to the principles of the party.
MN is a political collaboration between UMNO and PAS established during the Penyatuan Ummah Assembly on 14 September last year.
Yesterday, the Secretary-General of PAS, Datuk Takiyuddin Hasan said that the party led by Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang will be joining the PN with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).
He said, PAS is one of the sponsoring party of the new political coalition which was set up after the political changes at the end of last February.
Meanwhile, the President of UMNO Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi repeated his stand that BN and UMNO would never join PN.
He said, UMNO has never interfered with the affairs of other parties although it was with PAS in the MN. –MalaysiaGazette
