KUALA LUMPUR – The administrative Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) was implemented effective from today until further notice to curb the spread of Covid-19 at the Penang Remand Prison.

The Malaysia Prisons Department said that several standard operating procedures (SOP) to prevent the spread of Covid-19 will be applied following the administrative EMCO.

Firstly, the ban on physical movement into and leaving the Penang Remand Prison will be further strengthened.

“The entry and exit control for staff on duty will be implemented. Visit from family, lawyers from embassy, non-government organisations and others will not be allowed,” said the statement.

Furthermore, activities such as courses, community, sports, recreation, celebrations in the prison and quarters are also forbidden.

“The total lockdown will be implemented on all inmate blocks with Covid-19 positive cases.

“May this explanation provide a clear picture to the community on the efforts of the Department and KDN in curbing Covid-19 in prisons of Malaysia,” said the statement. –MalaysiaGazette
