KUALA LUMPUR – UMNO Supreme Council Member Tan Sri Annuar Musa said that the statement by Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on the political truce was the decision made by the President of UMNO himself, after taking into consideration of the opinion from various quarters.
He said, the President and UMNO understand that the priority is the people, especially in matters pertaining to lives and health.
Annuar, who is also the Minister of Federal Territories said that Zahid’s decision was right as the country has entered a political emergency, health emergency and economic emergency.
“What is our effort to save us from all these? Therefore, the action of the UMNO President is right. We prioritise the people and the country, not politics,” he said in a Facebook post this morning.
He commented on the allegations that Zahid had allegedly made the decision after being pressured by several UMNO state leaders in a meeting yesterday.
The allegations also mentioned that the meeting took place for four hours and discussed issues such as ‘Zahid’s letter to the Palace’ which has been denied by the office of the UMNO President earlier.
Annuar said that the government should be brave in seeking non-conventional solutions and think in new normal and out of the box context by prioritising the people and saving the country.
The Secretary-General of Barisan Nasional also said that disrupting the stability of the country is the easiest move and changing the Prime Minister will not destroy Covid-19 virus.
Furthermore, the general election will also not be able to save the people and it can further cause chaos in the country.
According to him, the situation faced by Malaysia and the world is extraordinary and requires various approaches.
“We have an unusual situation. No references with the exception of looking into various approaches and create our own prescription,” he said.
Therefore, Annuar emphasized that the government requires stability and time to curb Covid-19 successfully.
The government also requires budget to support various actions, including operations that protect the lives of the people.
The Member of Parliament of Ketereh also said, the Election Commission (EC) needs to prepare and draft new comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) prior to the general election.
According to him, by-election such as in Batu Sapi was supposed to be held but has been postponed until everything is under control.
“All that is harmful must be avoided,” he said.
Yesterday, Ahmad Zahid said that UMNO would want a political truce to ensure that the agenda of overcoming Covid-19 is prioritised, besides wanting to help people who are troubled by the economic problems. He also stated UMNO’s support for the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government in facing pandemic and economic recession in a statement today.
He also instructed the leadership of the party in the Cabinet to give their full focus on the efforts of helping the people, and lightening their burdens. –MalaysiaGazette
