KUALA LUMPUR – The Supreme Council of UMNO has decided to remain with their decision in rejecting to work with PKR and DAP.

In a statement, the President of UMNO, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that the Members of Parliament (MP) from UMNO will continue to support the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

“UMNO urges for the improvement on the principles of cooperation and it should be based on respect and political consensus.

“We also want to ensure our decision made during the UMNO General Assembly to enhance Muafakat Nasional (MN),” he said.

According to the statement, the UMNO Supreme Council respects the decision of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong who rejected the request to declare the state of emergency in the country presented by the Prime Minister.

To UMNO, the decision made by the Conference of Rulers was very wise and was a relief for the people.

He added, UMNO fully supports and accept the recommendation of Agong and the Conference of Rulers to relief political tensions in the country by implementing the political truce to ensure political stability in Malaysia.

Furthermore, UMNO also recommends for the National Reconciliation Initiative or the National Peace Agenda to be implemented immediately by combining all political parties under the PN government and also the opposition parties.

According to Zahid, UMNO also suggests for the government to take a more inclusive approach which envelopes the differences in party ideology in overcoming the Covid-19 pandemic and the economic negative impacts faced by the people.

The UMNO Supreme Council had a meeting last night from 8.30 pm and ended at around 12.15 am this morning.

All Supreme Council members kept mum and did not respond to the questions by the media on the decision of the meeting.

However, one of the MP from Padang Besar, Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin gave a brief response by saying, “Reject DAP, reject Anwar.” –MalaysiaGazette
