KUALA LUMPUR – The Speaker of Dewan Rakyat, Datuk Azhar Harun was angered by the rudeness of the Kepong Member of Parliament (MP), Lim Lip Eng who slammed the ruling made by the Deputy Speaker, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said as stupid.

Azhar, who could not control his temper raised his voice and firmly asked the MP from DAP to leave the Dewan Rakyat immediately.

Upon seeing that Lip Eng was still stubborn, he issued the order again and called for the Parliament police to escort the MP out.

The incident happened when Azhar was explaining about the regulation to the Bagan MP, Lim Guan Eng who urged Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing (GPS-Bintulu) to apologise on the ‘DG takut mati’ issue after King Sing alleged yesterday, that the Director-General of Health did not go to the field to Sabah during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I have read the handsard this morning about what happened, I think that the rhetoric of the debate needs to be controlled as the word used was rather rude to me.

“I have read the handsard and found that the Deputy Speaker has made the rule and according to Order 143, it has been finalised and I have no power to revisit that,” Azhar said.

“But that ruling is stupid,” Lip Eng cut in suddenly.

“Can I talk? How can you say that the Speaker is stupid?” Azhar questioned.

“Do not conspire with Bintulu,” Lip Eng answered.

Azhar then requested Lip Eng to sit down several times and he then tapped the gavel thrice and asked Lip Eng to get out.

Right after that, the DAP MP argued and said that the Speaker should leave instead.

“You get out! Two days from now. This is too much,” Azhar said.

“Who is too much?” Lip Eng answered.

“Quiet and leave. I am calling the police. I am suspending you for five days. Secretary of Dewan, please call the police,” Azhar said and the Parliament police wa seen approaching Lip Eng to escort him out of the hall.

Azhar explained to Guan Eng again that he has scrutinised the handsard and found that the Deputy Speaker has made the ruling not once, but several times.

“Although she’s the Deputy Speaker, she has the authority like the Speaker because she chaired the sitting yesterday. I cannot overrule that. It is not proper. If we want to debate that ruling, we need another motion,” he said. –MalaysiaGazette
