KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that he had tried to allow another person to shoulder the responsibility as the President of UMNO, however, the party did not ‘become better’ then.
He said, he took a six month 12 days leave from the position once.
According to Ahmad Zahid, he had to perform the Istikharah prayer and discussed with his friends in the party. He then decided to continue leading UMNO despite facing many difficulties.
“I felt like I was breathing in the mud back then,” he said during a special interview with Owh!MG produced by MalaysiaGazette yesterday.
According to Ahmad Zahid, assuming the role as the President of UMNO when the party was at its low was not an easy task.
On his court case, Ahmad Zahid insisted that the charges pressed against him are politically motivated and he wants to clear his name through court trial.
Ahmad Zahid also stated that he is not a leader who likes to ‘cut in’ although there are people in the party who wants to ‘challenge’ his Presidency seat.
“Not everyone agrees (with me) and it could be viewed as a liability. No matter what, do not allow our party to be banned. We should not ‘kick out’ everyone who do not agree with us that we need to set up a new party.
“In facing the challenges and pressures, I believe in qada and qadar (predestination of things), we must redha (accept wholeheartedly) on what is thrown to us… Allah will not test us more than we can bear.
“We shouldn’t bring our domestic problems to the office. The problems in PWTC should not be brought to Country Heights,” he said, referring to his residence in Kajang, Selangor while smiling. –MalaysiaGazette
